Last season was another successful season for North Carolina FIRST Tech Challenge!
North Carolina FIRST Tech Challenge had a total of 8 Qualifying Tournaments over a one-month span, early January to early February, in locations as far East as Asheville and as far West as Farmville. The number of teams at each tournament varied between a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 36. The mixture of first-time and experienced Host Sites consisted of both private and public schools.
A "Thank You" to all volunteers and to each host site that opened up their doors to the excited children of North Carolina for such a wonderful experience.
A 38-team State Championship tournament was held in February on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University for the chance to advance to the World Championships in Houston, Texas. The event was a success and a "Congratulations" to the following teams for qualifying to represent North Carolina at the World Championships: #7105 Swift Intergalactic Space Squirrels, #16328 Trial n' Error, #8569 RoboKnights, #2901 Purple Gears, and #9548 Highly Combustible!

The typical season will comprise of approximately seven qualifying tournaments across the state. This number will be dictated by the number of registered FTC teams. Currently, each FTC team has the opportunity to compete in two tournaments.
The number of teams advancing to the NC FTC State Championship will be determined based on the number of teams at each qualifying tournament. This number will be announced at the coaches meeting on the day of the tournament. Most of the qualifying tournaments will be capped at a maximum of 24 teams.
Teams must be registered with NC FTC in order to participate in a NC Qualifying Tournament. NC is a closed state, therefore teams from other states may not participate in a NC tournament.
