North Carolina FIRST® LEGO® League State Championship will host 66 teams consisting of 4th through 8th grade students competing from across the state of North Carolina. All participating teams advanced to the state championship from one of 17 qualifying events in the months of November and early December.  Students will compete using custom designed robots that complete autonomous missions on a Lego based field.  In addition to robotics, all teams complete an Innovation Project based on this season’s theme, and present before a panel of judges on tournament day. This year’s event will feature a display of projects for public viewing.  The top teams from the North Carolina State Championship will move on to national and international FIRST® LEGO® League competitions around the world.

WHEN
The tournament will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, and will begin at 8:00am.  The event will be open to the public from 12 noon – 5:30pm, beginning with the Opening Ceremony followed by Robot Performance Runs, Public Project Presentations and ending with Awards Ceremony.  A special Archaeology ‘Dig Site’ will also be available to the public to learn more about Archaeology (this year’s theme).

ABOUT FIRST®
FIRST® LEGO League introduces STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to youth at an early age and grows the students’ interests in STEM, STEM careers, and understanding of STEM. These events are free and open to the public.
The range of opportunities that an education in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) offers young people is wider than ever. FIRST® helps kids uncover their futures using a winning formula of inspiration, hands-on learning, team-based problem solving, mentorship, and celebration.

More Than Robots®, we are a life-changing global community of mentors, educators, volunteers, sponsors, parents, and alumni who are dedicated to helping all young people develop the skills, confidence, and resilience to succeed.

Exciting, hands-on FIRST programs have a proven and lasting impact on STEM learning and interest in students. FIRST participants work as teams in creative learning environments to solve an annual, themed robotics challenge.
